BUDERIM

GINGER MOUNTAIN       BY THE SEA

Driving from the expansive beaches of Mooloolaba and Maroochydore, at Alexandra Headland the road immediately starts to climb the hill to Buderim Mountain. In a very short distance you have reached an elevation of 180 metres where you can begin to take in the glorious views of the beautiful Sunshine Coast. The 360-degree view reveals cosmopolitan Noosa to the north, the Glasshouse Mountains to the south and the Blackall Range to the west. But it is the spectacular coastline views that really take your breath away.

Commanding such an awe-inspiring position is just one of the alluring features of this delightful area. Located in the centre of Queensland's Sunshine Coast, Buderim is the perfect place for visitors to stay in peace throughout the year and utilise its great location to discover the beautiful natural and man-made attractions of the area.

The name Buderim is synonymous with ginger, beautiful gardens, fine dining and charming bed & breakfasts. While long celebrated by the discerning tourist, Buderim is creating a stir further afield for its unique appeal. Buderim's famous ginger products are recognised as the best in the world. Do you know you can actually drink, eat and wear products made from this unique plant? And, you may not realise it, but ginger plants also produce some of the most beautiful and unique flowers you are ever likely to see. A large collection is growing in Aquila Retreat's gardens.

In earlier days, Buderim Ginger was processed at the Ginger Mountain factory, right in the heart of Buderim. To allow for expansion of its range, the Ginger Factory has relocated to nearby Yandina and is now a popular tourist attraction in its own right. In January of each year, the Ginger Factory holds its famous Ginger Flower Festival - the huge array of flowers is simply stunning and a must see!

The natural beauty of Buderim is sure to enchant. The 45 hectare Buderim Rainforest Waterfall Park is the jewel of this lush mountain hideaway. This paradise, close to the heart of Buderim, is a sub-tropical forest of native trees and shrubs and features a waterfall and sparkling creek, which runs the full length of the park. Standing on the beautiful wooden bridge will provide you with an excellent platform to view the waterfall, the deep rock pools, the shallow caves and the giant boulders. Swim, paddle and picnic - all is possible in this idyllic rainforest. From the lower entrance of the park, in Lindsay Rd, a 400 metre boardwalk aids access for people with a disability or for those just wanting an easier walk.

At the top entrance to the rainforest, in Quorn Close, is a garden dedicated to the memory of the renowned Victorian landscape designer, Edna Walling. Edna Walling spent the last years of her life in Buderim and the garden is a beautiful celebration of her biggest passion. The timber archways, native shrubs and the drifts of ground covers express her gardening philosophy.

In the heart of Buderim Village you can step back in time with a visit to the Buderim Pioneer Cottage. The cottage, built in 1876, is a rare gem - a piece of living history, which will give you a unique snapshot of Buderim's heritage.

After all your exploring is done you'll need to allow time to relax and dine in style at one of the fine restaurants or cafes that dot the quaint mountain scape. Prepare for a gastronomic adventure with international flavours subtly melded together by award-winning chefs. Enjoy a leisurely lunch while taking in the coastal views, then sip an evening cocktail as you watch a beautiful sunset, followed by the emergence of twinkling lights from the nearby coastal strip.

Whether you are planning your honeymoon, looking for that romantic getaway or a weekend escape, staying at Buderim will meet all your expectations and more. In summer, the cool sea breezes are a welcome blessing, as is the easy access to stunning golden beaches. With its higher elevation, Buderim is also ideal in the cooler months. Whilst the days are gloriously temperate, the nights are just perfect for snuggling up in front of a cosy fire place with that special person. You will find no shortage of premier accommodation, with boutique hotels, bed and breakfasts and accommodation that capture the romance of the area.
